Pulled pork and other great things

quincy market, boston

Hi. I haven't baked or cooked or done anything delicious for myself in a while. Blame the 9-6 work hours. Blame the 1 hour commute back and forth. Blame the exciting and wonderful weekends I've been spending outside the house. Heehee. Alright I don't have that many excuses, but really, I miss the kitchen and creating something really delicious and succulent food - FOR ME. I mean, I have been consistently baking lately, but only for orders or other people, which I love doing fo shizzle. But, in the great words of my sister Jennifer, "What about my needs?"

bachelorette trip

Ah, but this isn't some intro to a story that gets super exciting where "I finally did something for myself". I'm just whining. But might as well whine with some delicious food involved. :)

So here it is. A list of foods that I've always wanted to make but never got a chance to, as well as dishes that I have some major cravings for time to time. And, if you have a super secret recipe that you are willing to share, oh, do please share!!

• Pulled Pork Sandwich
• Pad thai (not ketchupy like the ones they make in some Toronto Thai restaurants)
• Jamaican Beef Pattie
• Awesome Hummus
• Classic Apple Pie
• A really good breakfast with some excellent potatoes
• Juicy Peppercorn Steak
• Farfalle Pasta with simple cream sauce and lotsa basil
• CORN DOGS
• Salad Nicoise
• Chinese Chili Turnip Patties (Lau Ba Ko)
• Herbed Focaccia

That's it for now, but I'm pretty sure this list will go on...
Hmph! I'm so hungry now!! :D

  1. I am so addicted to this hummus recipe that I make it about every 2 weeks. I'm the only one who eats it in my house, but that's okay with me! I found it at pickycook originally. It's the best!

  2. Check out www.tastespotting.com! When I don't know what to cook, I always head over there for some inspirations.

  3. I have to admit, I make an awesome pulled pork. I cook it with onions and an orange and the taste is amazing. I made carnita with it when I blogged about it, but you can skip the step where it goes back in the oven and just use it as pulled pork.

  5. 1 lb farfelle
    12 bacon slices
    1 28-oz diced tomatoes, drained
    1/4 tsp. crushed pepper
    3 c arugula
    1 c sliced scallions
    1 c thinly sliced basil
    1/4 c dry white wine
    1 c Parmesan

    Cook pasta, al dente
Cook bacon in heavy skillet until crisp. Keep 3 TB drippings, add tomatoes and crushed pepper.
Sauté until tomatoes soft, about 2 minutes.
Add arugula, onions, 1/2 c basil and bacon.
Sauté til basil and arugula just wilts, about 2 minutes.
Stir in wine. Simmer. Add pasta, mix in 3/4 c Parmesan and rest of basil (1/2 c)
Cook until cheese melts and coats pasta about 2 minutes.
    Add s&p. Sprinkle with 1/4 c cheese.
    Serves about 6.
I would probably double sauce for this amount of pasta but not all ingredients. I usually use fresh baby spinach.

    Enjoy.

  7. I just saw a delicious recipe for salad nicoise on www.phamfatale.com, super cute blog.

I think I'm half crazed, but I am thinking about whether to offer to make cupcakes for 175 people at my brother's wedding. I realize it is a lot of hard work. Am I crazy? Your key lime cupcakes would be perfect for the occasion. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.

  8. Hi Sarah! I've been reading your posts here and there, and I finally made a blog of my own, so I stopped by to say hello. :)

My name is Joanne, and I've been baking for a year or so. I just wanted to tell you how encouraging it is to see your beautiful pictures and to see how you balance your hobbies with school and work (since I'm a student still). Thanks, and God bless!

  10. Pad Thais are sometimes "ketchupy" in Toronto? what lame Pad Thais are you getting? haha. Please let me know where the best ones are so I can avoid the ketchupy ones. Have you been to Thai Basil?
