Short Order

chocoholic

Not exactly short order, these cupcakes were done on short notice! For a special birthday party of a one month old baby. How cute is that. These cupcakes turned out more grown-up looking than a baby party, but I figured it'd be mostly adults attending the party, no? Ah.. Maybe not. The decoration was up to me, so I just stuck with what I thought was pretty. I am a gourmet cupcake maker, after all. Ya right!

The first cupcake you see here is the Chocoholic. It's a dark chocolate cake (my indispensable black magic cake) and dark chocolate frosting (martha stewart's recipe) with milk chocolate shavings. It's very very chocolatey. The second cupcake you see below is the van ♥ choc. A soft vanilla cake (Magnolia's) embracing a huge hunk of milk chocolate ganache frosting.

By the way, I made labels for my cupcake boxes!! I was thinking of doing this a whilllle back, but never got around to it. And as I was scrounging around my room for some sticky paper, I found translucent printable label stickers. How Perfect. They looks so groovy with the brown boxes. The photo doesn't do justice, though, you gotta see em in person how pretty they look. I'm so cool. Cmon now, give it to me! Heehee just playing around with you! :P

Hi Anonymous!
I'm sorry I missed that comment! But yeah, I just use large cupcake cups. And really with the filling, it really depends on the recipe. Some of them call for 2/3, some 3/4. I'm quite unlucky with that too. Sometimes I fill it up too much and they get really ginormous and ugly, sometimes theyre almost mini. The recipe usually indicates how much you should fill. So it's probably best to just follow that. To be on the safe side though, I'd say to stick with the 2/3rds. You can always compensate the smaller cupcakes with extra frosting!! Anyways, thanks for coming by! I hope this helped!

Hi Alison! Actually, I didn't make these boxes! I got them shipped from the states. I love their boxes, but they only sell in bulk. You should check them out! They're really good quality and their service is great. www.brpboxshop.com.

I really like how you light your photos. Is that black surface paper? The matte finish seems to work great for photos.

thanks everyone for such nice comments! and melissa, if i can pipe, you can for sure!! you just need the right tools: a nice big star tip, a pastry bag, and a not-too-runny frosting. that's all! oh, and watch youtube video tutorials! heehee.

Hey Jude! (AWESOME name, by the way.) The background is just black matte board. I have tons of this stuff from all my design projects, so I thought it would go well with my dark chocolatey cupcakes. And the lighting is, well, just natural sunlight. I luckily have a sunny kitchen, so all that is God's own lighting for me. Haha. And I make sure NO light is turned on in the kitchen. I hate the yellowy light.

Do you know what's crazy? I do not have an open star tip. Only the French style, with the small, fine tines. Every time I see your showstopping cupcakes, I am reminded of my lacking. Must get one, and MUST try that Black Magic recipe. Lovely, as always.
